Each week we pack a selection of fresh, seasonal produce into three sizes of box. Potatoes and carrots appear virtually every week and onions most weeks. The remainder of the box is made up of various items depending on the time of year: for example, salad crops such as tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce and peppers in summer, and greens and root crops in winter, such as cabbages, leeks, Brussels sprouts and swedes.

Generally speaking, the larger the box size, the more items you get and the larger the portion. Crops grown for other times of the year include broad beans, Brussels sprouts, runner beans, celeriac, celery, chard, Chinese cabbage, courgettes, cucumbers, fennel, kohl rabi, lettuce, marrows, mizuna, salad onions, parsley, peppers, radish, rhubarb, rocket, spinach, sweet corn, turnips and tomatoes.
The majority of the box contents are grown ourselves, although we currently buy in (from other organic growers) some of our carrots and onions (when our own crops run out). It is our aim eventually to grow everything but the box ourselves!
Packing takes place on two days each week - Tuesdays are "local" days and Thursdays are "Bristol Route" days:
The local boxes are either (1) delivered to collection points (see below), (2) delivered “door to door” if you live in Bishops Lydeard, Cotford St. Luke, Norton Fitzwarren and some areas of Taunton, or (3) collected from the farm (by order only, we do not have a farm shop!).
The "Bristol" boxes are delivered to various collection points in Bristol and en route. Individuals then collect their boxes later that day according to the arrangements they have made with their collection point. Our route to Bristol is along the M5 motorway, and detours are made to Weston-Super-Mare and Clevedon. We welcome enquiries from anyone on or near this route.
Boxes are paid for in advance to safeguard against last minute cancellations, after the produce has been harvested, or failure to collect a box. This means the money for your next box should be paid to the collection point when this week's box is collected.
Unlike some box schemes, you are not committed to having a certain number of boxes in a given time period. As long as the collection point is informed, you can have whatever size of box you like, however often you like!
The boxes themselves are collapsible and should be returned to the collection point each week for re-use. They are expensive, costing us up to 60 pence each, but quite apart from cost it makes sound ecological sense to use them as many times as possible.

If you do not live within striking distance of one of our collection points you may like to set up a collection point of your own. All you need, apart from a group of people who would also like a box, is someone who would be prepared to collect payment and orders from the group and pass them on to the farm each week.
In return for this, providing the order is five boxes or more, a 10% discount is given to the organizer to reward their efforts. If you are interested in doing this, please either phone me on 01823 432488 or email me on keith@stoneage-organics.co.uk
